Love Drama on Tour!
“Brilliant! Super ideas which engaged the children fully for 90 minutes. Great to see the less able children being so participative! Very, very useful for ‘Shared Reading’, can’t wait to get started! Thank you!”
Lynne McEwan, Head Teacher, St Ninian’s R.C. Newton Stewart
Today I started a little tour of central Scotland for the Scottish Book Trust. I am waving the Love Drama wand over pupils who are participating in the very exciting ‘Shared Reading’ project, where older pupils read picture books with younger pupils. My job is to enthuse the pupils about the books and guide everyone in the right direction to ‘find the fun’ in the books they will be reading.
First stop was Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway where I was greeted by 30 enthusiastic pupils from three different local schools. This workshop was non stop and energetic and the pupils here were wonderful at coming up with ideas for voices and at bringing the books to life.
Then it was off to St John’s Town of Dalry where twelve pupils from two different schools came along to explore the three wonderful books: Solomon Crocodile, Jack & The Flum Flum Tree and The Day Louis Got Eaten. Not only did the pupils here join in but the teachers too! We saw Mrs Banner the school librarian and MrMcKenna the Head Teacher from Carsphairn Primary becoming monsters, posing on the stage and Mrs Banner was even hiding under a table playing the part of a mouse on a ship! Very impressive and a lot of fun!
I am looking forward to working with pupils in Dumfries tomorrow!
